Frequently asked questions

  • What is the difference between HR and employment law?

HR is the day-to-day management of your people – recruitment, performance and culture – while employment law is the legal framework those decisions have to sit inside. HRoes’ consultancy is built around employment lawyers rather than generalist HR advisers, so you get both perspectives from the same team rather than needing to bring in a solicitor separately when something turns legal.

  • What does HRoes’ HR advisory service include?

It includes unlimited advice on HR and employment law matters, compliant documentation, support with employee relations cases, and access to a dedicated advisor who knows your business – for around £6 per person per month rather than paying separately for a solicitor’s hourly rate on top of HR support.

  • Is HRoes’ consultancy suited to small and large organisations alike?

Yes. The service is built for UK SMEs but scales with you, from a handful of employees through to larger multi-site teams, so you’re not outgrowing it as your headcount changes.

  • Does my HRoes consultancy subscription include insurance as well as advice?

Yes. Consultancy isn’t sold as advice alone – it’s part of HRoes’ unified offering, which includes insurance-backed Employment Risk Cover alongside the software, training and advisory support. This isn’t a separate policy you buy on top; it’s bundled into the same subscription, arranged by Caunce O’Hara Insurance Brokers, which is authorised and regulated by the FCA.

  • How much insurance cover is included, and what does it protect against?

The bundled cover provides insurance-backed protection of up to £250,000* for eligible employment-related claims, including grievances, disciplinaries, discrimination, harassment and unfair dismissal. *And as long as HRoes’ advice and processes have been followed correctly, there’s no excess to pay.

  • Who isn’t covered by HRoes’ consultancy advice?

The retained advice covers your organisation as the employer – it doesn’t act for individual employees, and matters outside UK employment law fall outside the service. This keeps the advice focused and avoids any conflict of interest between employer and employee.

  • Does HRoes offer HR software alongside consultancy?

Yes. The HR platform handles documents, absence, holidays and performance in one place, and is included alongside consultancy support rather than sold as a separate product – so your advisor and your records sit in the same system.

  • How does an HR consultancy retainer work alongside our own in-house team?

HRoes can work alongside an in-house team as a second opinion and escalation route for harder cases, or act as your full HR function where you have no internal HR resource at all – so the service adapts to how much HR capability you already have.

  • How quickly can I get advice from HRoes?

For instant guidance, you can log or flag any issue directly in the HRoes platform and get immediate advice from HaRi, our AI assistant, with the query automatically logged for your records. For anything that needs a human, you get same-day access to your advisor for urgent matters, with most queries answered within a few hours during working days – so you’re never just waiting on a reply.

  • Who’s behind HRoes’ consultancy team, and what’s their experience?

HRoes’ consultancy was co-founded by Elissa Thursfield, an award-winning employment lawyer, and the team draws on over 50 years of combined hands-on experience in HR and employment law, with individual nominations for Lawyer of the Year, Junior Lawyer of the Year and Rising Star of the Year. HRoes is also rated excellent on Trustpilot.

  • How much does HR consultancy cost with HRoes?

HR advisory support starts from around £6 per person per month as part of HRoes’ unified offering, working out considerably cheaper than hiring an in-house HR team or paying a solicitor separately for employment law queries. Exact pricing depends on headcount and sector – see the pricing page for a tailored quote.

Advisory Services

Make sure your processes are run in accordance with the law, to resolve difficult issues around sickness absence and employee disputes.

Compliance services

Compliant documentation isn’t just for peace of mind, documentation is a legal requirement that leaves your business open to fines and legal enforcement.

HR training

Essential for managers and employees. Not only can it reduce the chances of making potential errors, but also can mitigate the fine that you are given if things do go wrong.
